Manchester City kept their domestic treble hopes alive with a tense 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
Antoine Semenyo scored the decisive goal in the second half, flicking Erling Haaland’s cross beyond Robert Sanchez to secure City’s eighth FA Cup title and complete an English cup double for Pep Guardiola’s side. City had already won the League Cup and now remain in contention for the Premier League title with two games left.
The final was tight for long periods, with Chelsea defending stubbornly and City controlling possession without creating many clear chances early on. Semenyo’s moment of quality proved the difference, giving City another Wembley triumph after losing the previous two FA Cup finals.
Chelsea pushed for an equaliser but again came up short in a major final. The defeat extended their run of domestic cup final disappointments and denied them a chance to end a difficult season with silverware.
For City, the win keeps alive the possibility of a domestic treble. Guardiola’s team must now turn back to the Premier League, where they are still chasing Arsenal in the title race. Midfielder Bernardo Silva said after the game that City could still “have a small dream” of fighting for the league.
The victory also underlined the impact of City’s January signings, with Semenyo delivering the biggest goal of his career on one of English football’s biggest stages.
