Liverpool are on the verge of securing the Premier League title, holding a commanding 12-point lead with just nine games left. However, recent setbacks, including a League Cup final loss to Newcastle and a Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain, have dampened the mood.
Manager Arne Slot acknowledged the defeats, stating, “This is part of playing football, especially if one of them is when you face the best team in Europe at the moment and the other one is facing Newcastle, which is a very strong team in England.”
Despite the disappointment, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk remains focused. “We have nine games to go, and I don’t think there’s any motivation needed,” he said. “If you win five games… you’re going to be champions of England.”
Yet, uncertainty looms over key players. Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract this summer, with speculation linking them to moves away. Van Dijk recently admitted he had “no idea” about his future.
Even as Liverpool nears its 20th English title, questions remain about the squad’s future. Slot may celebrate soon, but the real challenge is just beginning.
