Peter Rufai, affectionately known as “Dodomayana,” has passed away at the age of 61 following a prolonged illness. Renowned as one of Nigeria’s most iconic goalkeepers, Rufai enjoyed an illustrious football career that spanned more than two decades and earned him legendary status in African football.
Rufai showcased his goalkeeping prowess across Europe, playing professionally in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. He was a stalwart for the Super Eagles, representing Nigeria in two FIFA World Cup tournaments and two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competitions.
His calm demeanor, leadership on the field, and exceptional shot-stopping ability made him a beloved figure among teammates and fans alike. Rufai’s passing is a profound loss for the Nigerian football community and the global sports fraternity.
