Bayern Munich have extended head coach Vincent Kompany’s contract through June 2029, the club announced Tuesday.
The Belgian, 39, has made a strong start to life in Munich, steering Bayern to an unbeaten opening across domestic and European competitions this season and earning praise for an energetic, front-foot style. Club executives hailed his influence on and off the pitch, citing renewed dressing-room spirit and a clear tactical identity.
Kompany joined Bayern last year and quickly won over fans despite reports he was not the club’s first-choice candidate. A former Manchester City captain and one of the Premier League’s most decorated defenders, he retired in 2020 before moving into management.
“I’m grateful for the trust and excited about the journey ahead,” Kompany said in a statement, adding that the focus remains on sustained success at home and in Europe.
The extended deal provides long-term stability as Bayern pursue the Bundesliga title and push for a deep Champions League run.
