LAGOS, Nigeria, Jan. 3, 2026 — The family of late Nollywood actress and filmmaker Allwell Ademola has released details of her burial rites, announcing a service of songs and candlelight procession on Thursday, Jan. 8, followed by her burial on Friday, Jan. 9, in Lagos.
In a statement circulated online and attributed to her cousin, actor Muyiwa Ademola, the family said Ademola would be laid to rest at Atan Cemetery, Yaba. The announcement also included a dress code aimed at ensuring uniformity during the ceremonies.
According to the family’s programme shared by Vanguard and TVC News, Thursday’s activities will begin with a service of songs from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. A candlelight procession is scheduled immediately afterward, running from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the route described as LTV 8 to Oregun Junction and back to LTV 8. The day will conclude with an Artistes’ Night, with closing remarks expected by about 11:00 p.m.
For the dress code, the family said a customised T-shirt would be available at the venue on Thursday. For Friday’s burial, guests were asked to wear a white shirt with jeans, noting that the colour code is white.
Ademola died on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, after suffering a heart attack, according to multiple reports. In an official family statement carried by The Punch and The Guardian, the family confirmed she was 49 at the time of her death, clarifying earlier conflicting reports about her age.
News of her passing sparked tributes across the Yoruba and wider Nollywood community. The Punch reported that actors including Damola Olatunji, Mr Latin, Faithia Williams and Bidemi Kosoko were among those who publicly mourned her after the initial announcements.
The family urged the public to rely on the announced schedule and dress code as preparations continue for the final rites.
