The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has disclosed that the Federal Government is actively engaging stakeholders to prevent the looming nationwide strike threatened by petroleum workers.
Speaking on Monday, PETROAN’s National President, Dr. Billy Gillis-Harry, reassured Nigerians that dialogue is ongoing to address the pressing issues raised by oil and gas sector unions.
According to him, the Federal Government has already opened discussions with critical players in the sector to avert disruptions that could cripple fuel supply and further strain the economy.
“The Federal Government is responding. Meetings are taking place, and we believe the concerns of workers will be addressed constructively,” Gillis-Harry stated.
He explained that while the unions’ grievances are legitimate, dialogue remains the best way to resolve disputes without worsening the current hardship faced by Nigerians.
The PETROAN president further warned that a nationwide strike at this time could deepen the ongoing fuel scarcity and directly impact transportation, businesses, and essential services.
“We cannot afford a total shutdown of fuel distribution. Hospitals, schools, and even security agencies all depend on energy supply. This is why government and unions must reach a common ground,” he said.
Gillis-Harry expressed optimism that the government’s interventions would yield positive results, noting that PETROAN is committed to supporting policies that stabilize the downstream sector.
“Our appeal is for patience. The issues will not disappear overnight, but dialogue will ensure a sustainable solution for both workers and consumers,” he added.
The proposed nationwide strike follows growing discontent among petroleum workers over welfare, deregulation policies, and fuel pricing challenges.
