A Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ruled that two separate DNA tests be conducted to resolve the paternity of Liam Aloba, the son of the late singer Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba. The order, issued by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, came after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed a motion requesting the tests.
The DNA tests are to be carried out in accredited and recognized hospitals, both within Nigeria and abroad. Both parties—or their representatives—must be present during the sample collection process.
Joseph Aloba emphasized the need for conclusive clarity on paternity, citing: Ongoing uncertainty regarding Liam’s parentage and the critical role of paternity confirmation in establishing maintenance obligations and safeguarding the child’s welfare.
The court has adjourned proceedings and scheduled a follow-up hearing for November 11, 2025, to allow for the results and further legal consideration. The court’s ruling underscores the legal importance of paternity certainty, especially as it concerns child welfare and financial responsibility. The dual-test approach reflects a thorough and fair process given the sensitivity of the matter.
