The planned arraignment of activist Omoyele Sowore and his media outfit, Sahara Reporters, at the Federal High Court in Abuja has been postponed following the absence of the second defendant.
The arraignment, which was expected to hold before Justice Emeka Nwite, could not proceed because Sahara Reporters had not been served with the court summons.
The case involves fresh charges of forgery, defamation, and alleged incitement to mutiny, all filed against Sowore and his online news platform.
During the proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that attempts to serve Sahara Reporters had failed. Efforts were made to use substituted service through newspaper publication, but the process was not yet complete.
The prosecutor told the court that “efforts to serve the second defendant through substituted means, by publishing the summons, had not been successful, as the publication was not ready.”
With Sahara Reporters yet to be formally served, the court was unable to go ahead with the arraignment. A new date is expected to be fixed once proper service is completed.
