President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to draw strength from the memories of the eight people who died in the recent helicopter crash, describing them as a “guiding light” in this period of national mourning.
Speaking at an Evening of Reflections and Memorial for the victims, the President encouraged the nation to find hope in the legacy of the departed rather than sink into despair.
“I pray that the cherished memories of these, our loved ones, will serve as a guiding light, illuminating a path through the darkness and devastation of this national tragedy,” Mahama said.
Visibly emotional, he noted that his address was not just in his capacity as President, but also as someone personally grieving. “Each of the eight persons in that helicopter was either a friend, a cherished colleague, or a valued citizen of this country that I lead,” he said.
Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, NDC Vice Chairman and former Kumasi Mayor Samuel Sarpong, and crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
