Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully dismantled a kidnappers’ hideout and rescued three abducted victims in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. The victims, who were taken near Ajebo under the Owode-Egba Division, were freed unharmed around 9pm on Friday, July 18, 2025, following a fierce gun battle between the police and the kidnappers.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on credible intelligence and swiftly launched an operation that led to the successful rescue. Two kidnappers were fatally wounded in the exchange of gunfire, while others escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot injuries.
Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle with breech number 5005584, loaded with 139 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a magazine, a cutlass, a chain and padlock likely used to restrain the victims, several mobile phones, and N1.2 million in cash.
Odutola emphasized that the operation reflected the police command’s unwavering dedication to public safety and its resolve to combat violent crime in the state. She also revealed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their swift and tactical response. He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and assured the public that the remaining suspects would be brought to justice.
