The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed an explosion near the Mararaba-Nyanya Bypass on Monday afternoon, which left one person injured.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the blast occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. and prompted an immediate response from officers, including members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit. “The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for clearance and forensic analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents,” the statement read.
The injured victim, a male, was promptly evacuated from the scene and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. His identity and condition have not yet been disclosed. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause and nature of the explosion, including whether it was accidental or deliberate.
While the incident caused temporary panic among commuters, the FCT Police Command has urged residents to remain calm, assuring the public that there is no cause for alarm. “We call on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or items to security agencies,” the statement added.
Security has been reinforced around the area, and normal traffic flow has since resumed. This incident comes amid heightened concerns over security in the nation’s capital. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of public cooperation in preventing further occurrences.
