The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has affirmed that President Bola Tinubu is not influenced by any cabal or secret group but is an independent leader who listens to various views before making bold, informed decisions solely for Nigeria’s benefit. Idris made these remarks on Thursday at the APC National Summit themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far” in Abuja.
Idris emphasized that while the president welcomes different opinions, his decisions are ultimately his own. He described the Renewed Hope Agenda as a bold, people-first strategy aimed at transforming Nigeria by turning challenges into opportunities and unlocking the nation’s full potential in unprecedented ways. Recalling Tinubu’s early decisive actions, Idris highlighted the removal of petrol and foreign exchange subsidies, which were costly impediments to Nigeria’s progress. He noted that such tough decisions reflect true leadership and are expected to yield lasting benefits.
The minister pointed to visible outcomes across sectors: large-scale infrastructure projects, social investment programs, and revitalization of mining and petroleum industries. He mentioned flagship highway projects spanning over 2,600 km linking key regions, the Kano-Kaduna Standard Gauge Railway as part of a national railway modernization plan, and the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Projects aimed at tackling housing deficits and creating jobs.
To support Nigeria’s digital economy, the government is deploying 90,000 km of fiber optic cable, enhancing broadband access and enabling smart governance and digital services. Idris also highlighted education and finance initiatives such as the National Education Loan Fund benefiting 300,000 students and the Consumer Credit Scheme assisting workers. On security, Idris reported significant military successes, acquisition of new aircraft and naval vessels, and praised the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development and Regional Development Commissions to promote agriculture and zonal development.
Idris underscored that every policy and program under the Renewed Hope Agenda aims to positively impact ordinary Nigerians, improving access to financing, food prices, transportation, electricity, and education. Finally, he applauded the recent Renewed Hope Nigeria First policy, which prioritizes Nigerian goods and services in federal spending to boost industrialization and protect the economy from global disruptions—calling it a historic step toward Nigeria’s economic renaissance.
