The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has inaugurated 50 new commissioners to strengthen Nigeria’s tax dispute resolution system.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Saturday, Edun emphasized that the appointments underscore the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting fiscal justice and improving the efficiency of tax dispute resolution processes.
“These appointments demonstrate our dedication to creating a fair and transparent tax system,” Edun said.
He urged the newly appointed commissioners to uphold equity, fairness, and dedication, stressing the importance of their roles in ensuring the system works for all Nigerians.
“I charge you to be fair, just, and dedicated in your duties. Your role is critical in ensuring that our tax system is fair and equitable,” he added.
New Leadership Pledges Accountability and Service
Okide Ezigbo, one of the newly appointed Commissioners of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and promised to be transparent and accountable.
“I am committed to service delivery and ensuring that our tax system is fair and just. I will work tirelessly to resolve tax-related disputes and promote fiscal justice,” Ezigbo said.
With over 22 years of legal experience, Ezigbo brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the tribunal, reinforcing its capacity to handle complex tax-related disputes.
Strengthening the Tax Appeal Tribunal
The Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT), established under Section 59 of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, is a critical body tasked with adjudicating tax-related disputes and ensuring that taxpayers’ rights are protected while upholding fiscal accountability.
The inauguration of these commissioners is expected to enhance the tribunal’s effectiveness, reduce the backlog of cases, and foster greater trust in the Nigerian tax system.
