Iran has rejected claims by Donald Trump that diplomatic progress is being made, accusing Washington of effectively “talking to itself” amid ongoing tensions.
The response came after Trump said the “wheels of diplomacy” were turning and that the United States was engaging with the “right people” in Tehran, suggesting a deal could be within reach.
However, Iranian officials firmly denied any negotiations were taking place. A military spokesperson dismissed the US position, saying Washington was “negotiating with itself” and insisting there had been no direct or indirect contact with American representatives.
Tehran also expressed deep scepticism about US intentions, portraying recent diplomatic overtures as unreliable and warning it would not be misled while military pressure continues.
The conflicting narratives highlight the uncertainty surrounding efforts to de-escalate the conflict, even as mediators push for talks and both sides publicly maintain sharply opposing positions on the state of diplomacy.
