The Nigeria Labour Congress has called for sweeping reforms in Nigeria’s power sector, urging the federal government to address persistent blackouts and establish a unified energy ministry.
In a statement, the labour body expressed frustration over the country’s unreliable electricity supply, declaring that Nigerians have had “enough of blackouts.” It stressed the need for decisive action to resolve longstanding inefficiencies in power generation, transmission and distribution.
The NLC argued that consolidating oversight under a single energy ministry would improve coordination and accountability across the sector.
According to the organisation, the current fragmented structure has contributed to policy inconsistencies and poor service delivery.
The union further warned that the ongoing power challenges continue to negatively impact economic activities, businesses and the daily lives of citizens.
It urged authorities to prioritise reforms that would ensure stable and affordable electricity, while reiterating its commitment to advocating for policies that protect the interests of Nigerian workers and the wider public.
