The Nigerian government has commenced the evacuation of citizens in Iran, escorting those who wish to leave safely across the Armenia border amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), confirmed the operation on Tuesday via her X (formerly Twitter) account.
She stated that officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the movement of citizens seeking to depart and ensuring their safe entry into Armenia. “The willing Nigerians in Iran are being safely escorted across the Armenia border by officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, ensuring smooth and secure passage for those wishing to leave,” Dabiri-Erewa wrote.
She added that no Nigerian has been affected by the tensions so far, and embassy staff remain at the border to assist evacuees.
The evacuation, carried out in partnership with Armenian authorities, is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to protect Nigerians abroad during crises and reflects continuous monitoring of Middle East developments.
