Lebanese officials have called for direct negotiations with Israel, accusing Hezbollah of compromising the country’s sovereignty and drawing Lebanon into confrontation without the approval of the state.
Government figures, expressing mounting frustration, said the Iran-backed militant group had effectively “betrayed” the nation by pursuing its own military strategy and provoking clashes with Israel. They warned that Hezbollah’s actions have placed Lebanon at serious security risk while worsening its fragile economic situation.
The statements mark a rare public appeal for direct talks with Israel, which authorities say could help ease tensions and safeguard Lebanon’s national interests. Officials stressed that decisions about war and peace must remain the responsibility of the state rather than armed factions operating independently.
The criticism underscores deep political divisions within Lebanon as the country struggles with regional instability and the powerful influence of non-state armed groups.
