Abuja — The Federal Government has cancelled the national Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled for Wednesday, 1 October, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence.
Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen, announced the decision in a statement on Monday night in Abuja.
Imohiosen stressed that the move “is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” adding that government remains “committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm.”
He said all other programmes slated for the anniversary remain in effect, and conveyed the government’s regrets for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
“The Federal Government appreciates the understanding, support, and cooperation of all Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests,” the statement read, urging citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s reforms “in making Nigeria a greater nation.”
