The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it has thwarted an attempt to smuggle suspected psychoactive substances into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje.
In a statement, Command Public Relations Officer Adamu Duza said the incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday when a visitor, Njimogu Ikedi, arrived posing as a caller to an inmate. During routine screening, officers discovered items suspected to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive drugs concealed in the visitor’s clothing—hidden inside his shorts and worn like a diaper—in an apparent effort to evade detection.
The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Jen, immediately ordered the suspect’s arrest and directed that he be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
NCoS reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on contraband, crediting diligent gate checks and strict search protocols for the interception. The Command warned that attempts to smuggle prohibited items—drugs, phones, or weapons—into custodial facilities will result in arrest and prosecution, and urged visitors to comply fully with all security procedures.
