The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested six suspects in connection with Friday’s attack on its tactical teams at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum LGA of Benue State. The ambush by suspected armed bandits and a local militia left three officers dead and seven others missing, according to Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin. Hundeyin said the arrests were made during an ongoing response operation in the area. The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Innocent Emenari, is leading efforts on the ground to rescue the missing personnel and track additional suspects believed to have fled after the assault.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun condemned the attack as “cruel” and “unwarranted,” calling it an affront to the people of Benue. He ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the affected corridor, pledging that “no stone will be left unturned” in restoring peace and security.
The six suspects are in custody and are providing useful information, the police said. Authorities urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to support security agencies with credible tips that could aid the search for the missing officers and help dismantle the criminal networks behind the assault.
