Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has dismissed as “false and baseless” reports claiming security personnel were withdrawn from former Governor Udom Emmanuel or any other former governor in the state.
Fielding questions from journalists, Umanah said the allegation was intended to mislead the public, stressing that deployment, reassignment, or withdrawal of police officers is the exclusive responsibility of the Inspector-General of Police and the State Commissioner of Police—not the governor.
“I can tell you on good authority that the Governor did not issue any directive to withdraw security operatives from the immediate past Governor,” he stated.
Umanah added that all former governors of Akwa Ibom State “are entitled to and continue to enjoy their security details as approved by law,” noting there had been no complaints from any former governor or their media teams about withdrawals. “The rumour exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” he said.
He urged the public to disregard the claims and reaffirmed that Governor Umo Eno remains focused on peace, unity, and good governance. The administration, he emphasized, will continue to ensure that all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, enjoy full protection under the law.
