GUSAU — The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed that five worshippers were killed and several others abducted when armed bandits attacked a mosque during morning prayers on Friday in Yandoto, Tsafe Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer ASP Yazid Abubakar told Vanguard by phone that the assailants surrounded the mosque, locked it, and opened fire on congregants. Multiple people were injured and have been evacuated from Yandoto to Gusau Hospital for treatment. The exact number of abductees is still being verified, he said, noting that the DPO of Tsafe is compiling a detailed report for the command headquarters.
Abubakar added that additional personnel have been deployed statewide to bolster security, with particular focus on places of worship. He urged residents to share timely, actionable information with security agencies to help combat the attacks.
Friday’s assault follows a similar incident about two weeks ago in Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA, where bandits killed worshippers and abducted many, underscoring persistent insecurity across rural Zamfara communities.
The latest attack is likely to intensify pressure on authorities to improve rapid response in vulnerable areas, enhance intelligence-gathering, and coordinate operations with local vigilante groups and federal forces amid continuing bandit activity in the North-West.
