Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have arrested six suspected “one-chance” robbers under a bridge in the Oshodi area of the state. The suspects were apprehended during an early morning operation after intelligence reports linked them to a string of robberies targeting unsuspecting commuters.
According to a statement released by LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, the suspects were caught in possession of 77 stolen mobile phones, several SIM cards, and other personal belongings believed to have been taken from victims. “Our officers intercepted them under the bridge during routine monitoring. Upon search, we discovered dozens of phones, wallets, and other valuables,” he said.
Furthermore, Taofiq explained that the suspects often posed as commercial bus operators to lure passengers before robbing them of their belongings. He added that the suspects had been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, LASTMA’s General Manager, Bakare Oki, commended the officers for their vigilance and quick response. He also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with security operatives to rid Lagos roads of criminal elements. “We will continue to ensure the safety of all road users through strategic patrols and intelligence sharing,” Oki stated.
Residents have since applauded the swift action, noting that one-chance robbery incidents had become increasingly common in parts of Oshodi, Berger, and Ojota. Authorities have urged commuters to remain cautious and avoid boarding unmarked or suspicious vehicles, especially at night.
The successful arrest, according to officials, marks another milestone in the state’s effort to make Lagos roads safer for both motorists and passengers.
