The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) has officially sacked the national team’s head coach after the country failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ending hopes of making their first-ever appearance at the global tournament.
According to a statement released by the FVF on Monday, the decision was taken after a comprehensive review of the national team’s poor campaign in the South American qualifiers.
“The Federation thanks the coach and his technical staff for their efforts but believes a new direction is necessary to achieve Venezuela’s football ambitions,” the statement read.
Venezuela endured a difficult qualifying run, struggling against top South American teams such as Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. Despite flashes of promise, the squad failed to secure crucial points, ultimately finishing outside the qualification zone.
Transitioning from disappointment to consequences, analysts argue that the failure highlights deeper issues within the national team setup, including inconsistent performances and tactical weaknesses.
The FVF confirmed that the process of appointing a new head coach has already begun. The federation hopes to bring in an experienced manager capable of rebuilding the squad and preparing for upcoming international competitions, including the Copa América.
Meanwhile, Venezuelan fans expressed mixed feelings over the dismissal. Some welcomed the change, arguing that a fresh approach was long overdue, while others questioned whether replacing the coach alone would solve the nation’s football challenges.
“It’s not just about the coach; the system needs an overhaul. Venezuelan football must invest in youth and infrastructure,” a fan commented on social media.
Although Venezuela’s dream of reaching the World Cup has been dashed once again, the FVF insists the focus will now shift to long-term development, with the aim of building a competitive side for future international tournaments.
