FIFA has officially opened its Africa regional headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, marking a significant milestone in the global body’s commitment to developing football across the continent. The state-of-the-art office, located at the Mohammed VI Complex, will support African federations in implementing development projects and advancing the sport at all levels. The opening follows a Host Agreement signed in December 2023 in Marrakech between FIFA, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Rabat now joins Paris, Miami, and Jakarta as one of the few global cities to host a FIFA office, further underscoring FIFA’s strategic engagement with Africa. The Rabat office will coordinate with existing FIFA regional offices in Brazzaville, Dakar, Johannesburg, and Kigali. “It’s a glorious day,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who praised Morocco’s vision and His Majesty King Mohammed VI for enabling the project. “This is witness to a country and continent projected into the future.”
The launch event was attended by key football figures including CAF President Patrice Motsepe, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, FRMF President Fouzi Lekja, and senior Moroccan government officials. Morocco has recently emerged as a continental football leader, both in performance and infrastructure. It will become only the second African nation to host the FIFA World Cup, co-hosting the 2030 tournament with Spain and Portugal.
