UFC President Dana White has responded to heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ cryptic social media posts suggesting possible retirement and a desire to face former UFC star Francis Ngannou. Speaking after UFC 316, White made it clear that Tom Aspinall is the next logical opponent for Jones—and not Ngannou, who is no longer with the organization.
White dismissed any talk of Jones retiring, saying the 37-year-old hasn’t communicated such plans to the UFC: “If the guy wants to retire and doesn’t want to fight, there’s nothing you can do.” He added that while he didn’t want legends like Khabib Nurmagomedov or Daniel Cormier to retire when they did, ultimately the decision is up to the fighters. Addressing the buzz surrounding Ngannou, who recently hinted he might return to the UFC, White firmly stated, “It’s Aspinall’s fight.” He downplayed any serious prospects of booking a Jones vs. Ngannou bout, reiterating that the focus is on a unification fight between Jones and interim champion Tom Aspinall.
Aspinall, who has impressed with his rapid rise in the heavyweight division, is widely seen as the division’s future. Jones, who has been sidelined due to injury, holds the official UFC heavyweight title but has yet to face Aspinall. White’s comments clarify the promotion’s direction: no superfights, no comebacks—just a long-awaited title clash between Jones and Aspinall, if Jones is willing to stay in the game.
