Cristiano Ronaldo has put to rest speculation linking him with a move to one of the teams participating in the upcoming Club World Cup, confirming he will not feature in the tournament.
Addressing the media ahead of Portugal’s Nations League final clash with Spain in Munich, the 39-year-old made it clear that reports suggesting he would join a squad for the newly expanded competition were unfounded.
“I will not be at the Club World Cup,” the Portugal captain stated, though he acknowledged, “I’ve been contacted” by multiple teams involved.
The Al-Nassr forward, who has been the subject of increasing speculation regarding his next move, arrived in Germany for the Nations League amid growing uncertainty about his club future. His current deal with the Saudi Pro League side expires at the end of June.
Back in May, Ronaldo sparked conversation when he shared a cryptic message on social media declaring, “the chapter is over,” as rumors circulated about a potential switch to Al Hilal, another Saudi club set to compete in the Club World Cup, hosted in the United States later this month.
Ronaldo emphasized he had no desire to make a last-minute move just to take part in the tournament.
“Some teams reached out to me. Some made sense and others did not, but you can’t try and do everything, you can’t catch every ball,” he explained.
He also indicated that clarity on his next steps is near. “The decision on my future is almost final,” he said.
