Portugal’s Under-17 team clinched the UEFA championship title with a commanding 3-0 victory in the final held at Arena Kombëtare in Tirana, Albania. The goals came from Anísio Cabral (30’), Duarte Cunha (38’), and Gil Neves (60’), sealing a triumphant comeback after losing the final to Italy in 2024.
Coach Bino Maçães praised his team’s tactical discipline and consistency, noting how well the players embraced his strategy. He described the win as an “incredible feeling” and emphasized the importance of the team’s hard work throughout the tournament.
Anísio Cabral called the championship “an unforgettable experience” and credited teammate Bernardo Lima for assisting his opening goal during a set piece. Martim Chelmik, a defender, expressed immense pride and said he would “cherish this moment forever,” likening it to living every young player’s dream.
France’s coach Lionel Rouxel acknowledged his team’s strong effort but admitted mistakes cost them dearly against a superior Portuguese side, expressing pride despite the defeat.
This victory marks Portugal’s seventh continental title at youth level, adding to past successes in 2016, 2023 (Under-17), and earlier Under-16 triumphs in 1989, 1995, 1996, and 2000.
Portugal’s route to the final was impressive, including wins against Albania (4-0) and Germany (2-1), finishing top of Group A alongside France.
