The Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has announced that a portion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway—specifically the first 30 kilometers of the 750-kilometer stretch—has been completed and will be officially commissioned this Saturday.
Uchenna Orji, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, confirmed that the commissioning ceremony is scheduled to take place at Kilometer 8 of the highway, near the Jakande Estate area in Lagos State, on May 31, 2025.
Minister Umahi also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will virtually inaugurate several other key infrastructure projects in Southern Nigeria as part of the Renewed Hope initiative.
Among the projects set for commissioning are the Ahmadu Bello to Eleko Village stretch on the Lekki Peninsula; the dualization of Section II (Sub-Section I) of the East-West Road from Eleme Junction to Ahoada in Rivers State; the reconstructed and expanded Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; the repaired Alesi–Ugep section in Cross River State; and the rebuilt Enugu Bridge located at the New Artisan Market along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a long-envisioned project conceived by President Tinubu nearly three decades ago, aimed at transforming the transportation framework across Nigeria’s coastal states. The project is designed to improve mobility, drive regional unity, and support sustainable and inclusive development.
“Today, as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a dream conceived has become a dream actualized,” said Umahi.
The coastal highway is one of the four cornerstone developments under the Renewed Hope Legacy Projects championed by the Tinubu administration.
