The gas tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday night was a tragic event, resulting in one fatality and four injuries, along with the destruction of 14 vehicles. The incident occurred when a fully loaded gas tanker lost control while trying to access the expressway from Otedola Estate road. The explosion caused damage to a commercial storey building and several shops nearby.

Emergency responders, including NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the fire service, police, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), were quickly on the scene to contain the situation. The FRSC worked alongside the fire service to prevent further damage and casualties.

The crash also caused significant traffic congestion, involving 15 vehicles in total, with brake failure suspected as the cause of the incident. The FRSC has stressed the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols, especially for vehicles carrying hazardous goods, and warned that any violations would result in sanctions. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, urged fleet managers, vehicle owners, and drivers to prioritize safety to prevent such incidents in the future.

The FRSC has also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any emergencies through their toll-free emergency line, 122.
