The Kogi State Government has announced the suspension of the annual Echane Festival, directing all relevant security agencies to enforce compliance and ensure the maintenance of law and order across affected communities.

The decision, according to official sources, was taken as part of broader efforts to safeguard public safety and prevent any breakdown of peace during the period originally designated for the cultural celebration. Authorities emphasized that the suspension is temporary but necessary, given prevailing security considerations and the need to avert possible disruptions.

Government officials stated that all security formations have been placed on alert and instructed to ensure strict adherence to the directive. This includes preventing gatherings or activities associated with the festival until further notice. The move, they added, is intended to protect lives and property while reinforcing the state’s commitment to stability.

The Echane Festival, traditionally celebrated with cultural displays, communal gatherings, and tourism activities, holds significant importance for local communities. However, the government maintained that public safety must take precedence over cultural festivities when concerns arise.

Residents and community leaders have been urged to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies. The state government also appealed for understanding, noting that consultations will continue with stakeholders to determine a suitable time for the resumption of cultural activities once conditions are deemed appropriate.

Security agencies are expected to monitor compliance closely and respond swiftly to any attempts to violate the suspension order. Authorities warned that any breach of the directive would be met with appropriate legal action in accordance with state laws.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving cultural heritage while ensuring that all public events are conducted in a safe and secure environment for citizens and visitors alike.
