The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five suspects allegedly linked to the recent abduction of pupils and staff from Papiri School in Niger State, marking a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the criminal network behind the attack.
Security sources said the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-driven operations conducted across multiple locations following weeks of investigations into the incident. The arrests are believed to be part of a wider operation aimed at tracking down those responsible for the kidnapping and preventing further attacks on educational institutions.
According to the DSS, preliminary findings indicate that the suspects played various roles in the planning and execution of the abduction. Investigators are also examining possible connections between the suspects and other kidnapping syndicates operating within the region.
Officials disclosed that several items considered relevant to the investigation were recovered during the operation. Security agencies are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend additional accomplices who may still be at large.
The Papiri School kidnapping had sparked widespread concern among residents, parents and education stakeholders, renewing fears over the safety of schools in parts of northern Nigeria affected by insecurity.
Authorities described the arrests as a major step toward ensuring justice for the victims and restoring confidence in ongoing security operations. They also assured the public that investigations would continue until all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
The DSS urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminal activity across the country.
