The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be transparent with Nigerians regarding the sudden removal of the country’s service chiefs. The party argued that the public deserves to know the real motives behind the sweeping changes in the nation’s security leadership.
In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Chairman, Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, the ADC expressed concern that the presidency had not provided adequate explanation for the decision. “The dismissal of the service chiefs without clear justification raises questions about accountability and transparency in governance,” Nwosu stated.
He further stressed that such a major shake-up in the nation’s defense architecture requires clarity to avoid speculation and mistrust among citizens. “Nigerians have a right to understand the rationale behind these decisions, especially at a time when the country faces serious security challenges,” he added.
Moreover, the ADC noted that while it supports any move aimed at strengthening national security, the lack of open communication could undermine public confidence in the administration’s strategy. The party urged the president to explain whether the sack was due to underperformance, internal disagreements, or a change in policy direction.
In addition, Nwosu emphasized that transparency in leadership transitions within the armed forces would demonstrate respect for democratic principles and enhance trust between the government and the people. He also called on the newly appointed service chiefs to prioritize professionalism, intelligence-sharing, and collaboration with civil authorities.
As the debate continues, many Nigerians are watching closely for further clarification from the presidency. Political observers have suggested that open communication on sensitive security issues could help dispel rumors and promote unity in addressing the nation’s pressing security concerns.
