Former Governor of Anambra State and the presidential candidate of the Labour party in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has said that the challenges facing Nigeria’s educational system include poor funding, shortage of qualified teachers, outdated curricula, and corruption, adding that it is the government’s responsibility to address these issues.
In a statement marking the International Day of Education and the celebration of 100th anniversary of the Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, Obi said the two events highlight the critical importance of education in unlocking our nation’s potential.
According to him, education remains a powerful tool for training a skilled workforce, driving innovation, and fostering sustainable development.
Obi however, stressed that “Nigeria continues to face significant challenges in its education sector, including poor funding, a shortage of qualified teachers, outdated curricula, corruption, and insecurity.”
“It is the government’s responsibility to address these issues and ensure every Nigerian child receives at least a basic education. By making education a priority, we can build a productive population that will drive our nation towards progress.”
The former Governor, in a visit to Dennis Memorial Grammar School emphasised on the remarkable achievements of the school and urged the students to take their education seriously, reminding them that with dedication b and hard work, they too could achieve greatness like these notable figures.
